Table 3 Follow-up and Monitoring

From: Consensus recommendations on dosing and administration of medical cannabis to treat chronic pain: results of a modified Delphi process

Scenario

Recommendation

• When initiating medical cannabis for chronic pain, patients should be seen:

• Every 2 to 4 weeks

• When the patient is stabilized on cannabis, the recommended follow-up is:

• Every 3 months although some patients may require more frequent monitoring, or local jurisdictions may legislate monitoring at specific time intervals

• Medical cannabis discontinuation should occur:

• If the patient experiences moderate or severe cannabis-related adverse effects, the maximum agreed upon dose in milligrams is reached and does not benefit the patient, and/or the patient has misuse or diversion associated with cannabis
