Phases of the estrous cycle did not affect the strength of auditory-cued memory assessed 24 h after conditioning. Results for the other memory types appeared similar (data not shown). Therefore, while certain gender differences were apparent in the effects of CBD and citalopram on fear memory acquisition and extinction, whether female mice were in an estrogen- or progesterone-dominated phase of the sex cycle was not a factor in the experimental outcomes reported in this study.
